Things to know
Seoul has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons.
- Summer
Summer (June to August) is hot, but not too hot to be uncomfortable. The average high temperature is about 29 C (84 F). It is also the rainy season in Seoul. The average rainfall per month is about 68 mm (2.7 inches).
- Autumn (September to November)
Autumn arrives in September and lasts until November when temperatures drop back down into the single digits once again.
- Spring (March to May)
Spring begins in April and lasts until May, when temperatures reach their highest peak at around 29 degrees Celsius (84 Fahrenheit).
- Winter
Winter lasts from December to February, when temperatures are below zero degrees Celsius (-18 F). However, the average high temperature during this period is around 0 C (-18 F), which helps keep snowfall at bay.
Seoul is a city that can be best enjoyed during the spring, summer, and fall. The average temperature in Seoul is about 15°C (60°F) in April, 24°C (75°F) in June, and 27°C (80°F) in September. Seoul has a rainy season from early June to mid-July. In July and August, typhoons often strike the Korean Peninsula.
Few Tips
If you're new to Seoul, it can be a bit of an adjustment. The weather here is hotter than most people are used to, and it's often humid—but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the city.
Here are a few tips for making the most of Seoul's weather:
1. Drink lots of water and take breaks throughout the day. If possible, try to avoid walking on hot days during the hottest part of the day (usually between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.). Instead, walk during cooler hours (between 6 a.m.-10 a.m. or 5 p.m.-8 p.m.) or if it's raining outside!
2. Avoid drinking alcohol when it's hot out—it will dehydrate you more quickly than usual, since alcohol is a diuretic (makes you pee more).
3. Wear light clothes that cover as much skin as possible (long-sleeved shirts/blouses, pants/skirts and socks/shoes), but don't overdo it with too many layers at once—you'll sweat more easily!
Best Time to visit Seoul
The best time to visit Seoul is between March and May. The weather is still cool, but there's not yet a chance of monsoon season. You'll get to experience the city at its most vibrant and alive before the summer crowds arrive in full force. If you want an idea of what Korea is all about, visiting in the fall or winter is recommended. The weather is beautiful during this time—not too hot or cold—and there are fewer crowds than during the summer months (which can be sweltering).
When to visit
Seoul is a city that never sleeps, so you can visit it anytime or night and always find something to do. The best time to visit Seoul depends on what you want to do there.
Going to Seoul during the summer months (June-September) will be great for you if you're looking for things to do at night. This is because, this season, it stays light out until about 10:00 p.m., which means that plenty of evening activities will be available for you.
If you prefer exploring during the day, visiting from January through May would be ideal as these months tend to be warmer than others and have fewer rainy days.
- Winter
The winter months offer a bit of a respite from the heat and humidity of summer, but they can still be quite cold and wet! The rainy season begins in late July or early August and lasts until mid-September. This means that if you're planning on visiting between mid-August and September, you'll want to make sure you pack an umbrella or two. If you're planning on visiting anytime between November 1st and March 31st, be prepared for snowfall in the mountains!
- Spring
In springtime (March through May), temperatures start heating up slowly—the average high temperature during April is around 22 degrees Celsius (72 Fahrenheit). Most of Seoul's attractions open up in early April, making this the best time of year for hiking trips or cultural tours.
Things to know
Seoul is a city like no other. Its culture, history and people are as varied as the many districts that make up the sprawling metropolis.
If you're looking for an adventure, then you should visit Seoul during the first half of April. During this time of year, many people flock to the city for its Cherry Blossom Festival. This festival celebrates the arrival of spring with lanterns, music and dancing. You can see these events at Namsan Mountain or Yeouido Hangang Park.
Another great time to visit Seoul is in September or October, when there are fewer tourists than usual. It's also a great time to experience traditional Korean culture! For example, you can attend a "Samul Nori" performance, an ancient form of Korean music played on traditional instruments such as drums and flutes by groups of four people at a time! It's not only fun but also educational!
To get a taste of Korean culture, make sure to attend one of the many festivals held during the fall in Seoul.
These include:
-The Korean Traditional Music Festival
-The International Crafts Fair (September)
-Seoul International Book Fair (October)
During this time of year, you can enjoy beautiful weather and take advantage of the festivals that take place throughout the city. You can also see some of Seoul's most famous sights, like Gyeongbok Palace and Namsan Tower.
Few Tips
The best time to visit Seoul is during the fall or winter months (September through February). This is when the weather is mild and dry, which makes it easier for you to explore all of the city's sights without getting too cold or wet.
- Book your trip as early as possible because prices tend to go up closer to the date of travel; however, if you wait too long, then some hotels may not have any vacancies left open so consider booking early but not too early so as not miss out on any good deals!
- Spring is one of the best times of year to visit Seoul because the weather is mild and pleasant. The weather can get pretty hot in July and August, but there are plenty of ways to beat the heat—from visiting water parks and beaches to exploring underground shopping malls with air conditioning! You'll enjoy the beautiful cherry blossoms blooming all over the city.
What to Wear in Seoul
Seoul is a city with a lot of culture and history. It's also full of exciting nightlife, great food, and even better shopping. If you're planning your first trip to Seoul, or if you've been there but want to know what's new and cool, we've got the inside scoop on where to go—and what to wear—in this amazing city.
What to wear
The first thing to know about Seoul is that while it's a modern city full of skyscrapers and high-tech conveniences, it still maintains its traditional Korean roots. This means that you'll see a lot of Korean people dressed in traditional garb: hanboks (traditional clothing), janggu (drumming), taekkyeon (a martial art), and so much more! Because of this, it's important for tourists to respect their culture by wearing appropriate clothing when visiting temples or other cultural sites around town.
The second thing to know about Seoul is that its weather can be unpredictable—it can be warm one day and freezing cold the next! For this reason, make sure your wardrobe includes layers so you can switch them out depending on which season it happens.
Things to know
When you're travelling to a place as vibrant, exciting, and full of life as Seoul, it's important to be prepared. Not only will you want to ensure you have the right amount of money in your wallet, but you'll also want to know what to wear. The streets of Seoul are filled with bright colours and patterns, so if you're not prepared for it, you might feel like an outsider on your first day. Because Seoul is a city that loves colour and fashion, you must do your research before making any wardrobe purchases.
Before heading off for any shopping trip in Seoul, there are some things that you should keep in mind:
- As mentioned above, most people in this city love colour! So if you're looking for something more subdued or neutral in tone, this probably isn't the best place for you.
- Also consider where in Seoul you'll be staying during your visit—if it's close enough to Gangnam District (a wealthy neighbourhood where many famous Korean celebrities live), then this might affect what kind of clothes would be appropriate there versus other neighbourhoods like Itaewon (where English speakers tend to congregate).
- If you are going to visit an outdoor attraction such as N Seoul Tower or Everland amusement park, you should bring along a light jacket or sweater just in case it gets windy or chilly. It can also rain unexpectedly during certain seasons, so make sure you have a waterproof jacket handy.
- If you plan on visiting one of Seoul's many gardens or parks like Seokchonhosu Lake Park or Dongdaemun Design Plaza, then it would be best to wear comfortable clothes that allow easy movement, such as shorts and t-shirts since there are no restrictions on how you dress while visiting these areas. You may also want to bring along your own water bottle, so you don't have to buy expensive drinks at these locations!
Few Tips
Are you headed to Seoul? We're so excited for you! We know it can be hard to pack for a trip, especially one as important as this one.
Here are some quick tips on what you should wear in Seoul:
1. Jeans are always a good call in Korea because it's pretty casual there. You can dress them up with a blouse and heels or dress them down with a t-shirt and sneakers.
2. A blazer: Blazers are great because they're versatile and can be worn over just about anything. Plus, they give off that "I'm totally ready for business!" vibe without being too stuffy or formal.
3. A dress: This is a no-brainer—dresses are always flattering and easy to wear in any situation (whether it's work or play).
4. An oversized sweater: Sweaters are another great option because they're cosy enough to keep you warm but not so bulky that they'll get in your way when you're trying to navigate through an unfamiliar city!
5. We also recommend wearing comfortable shoes that are easy to walk in (this is why sneakers are so popular). You'll be doing a lot of walking around Seoul—and if your shoes aren't comfortable and supportive, your feet will hurt, leading to bigger problems (such as foot fungus).
