Weather in Algarve

The weather in Algarve is Mediterranean, so don't expect to be swimming on the beach every day. You'll find that it's hot and humid in the summer, with temperatures reaching as high as 45 degrees Celsius (that's 113 degrees Fahrenheit). There are also plenty of rainy days during this time, so don't forget to pack your umbrella! The winter months are milder, with average temperatures of around 17 degrees Celsius (62 degrees Fahrenheit) during the day and 12 degrees Celsius (54 degrees Fahrenheit) at night.

What type of weather

The weather in Algarve is what you might call "seasonal." It's not great. Or you might call it "sucky."

If you're planning to go to the Algarve, here's what to expect:

  • Summer

The best time to visit is from June through September, but even then, it can get quite hot and humid. If you're going during this time, make sure to stay hydrated and wear lightweight clothing. Also, bring a hat! The sun will be beating down on your head while you're trying to enjoy the gorgeous beaches and scenery of Portugal.

  • Winter

It gets cold here in winter (about 50 degrees Fahrenheit), so pack some sweaters or jackets. You'll also want warm socks and hats (again). Please make sure all your clothes are dry before putting them back on! There's not much snowfall in this area; most of the precipitation comes in the form of rain or sleet, so don't worry too much about being cold on your feet.

Things to know

The weather in Algarve is usually very pleasant and warm. The winters are mild, with temperatures rarely dropping below 5 degrees Celsius. The summers are hot and dry, with temperatures reaching up to 45 degrees Celsius during the day. Rainfall is rare during these months and the autumn season (which lasts from October to December). The winter months tend to be windy and rainy, with the occasional snowfall. However, the summer months are sunny and hot.

Few Tips

The weather in Algarve, Portugal, is lovely all year round. The temperature averages around 20°C (68°F) during the summer months and between 10°C (50°F) and 12°C (54°F) during the winter. Rainfall occurs mostly in spring and autumn but rarely for more than an hour a day.

  1. The sun shines most of the time, but be sure to pack sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat for protection from the sun's rays!
  2. In the winter, cold waves from the north bring chilly winds. In the summer, hot air from Spain rises over the mountains and meets cool air from the Atlantic to produce storms that hit regularly.
  3. The rain is usually warm and refreshing, though sometimes it can be bitter cold or even snow! But don't let these things discourage you—the sun shines almost every day, and the temperature is so mild that you can spend hours outside without putting on a jacket!

The best time to visit the Algarve is from May to September. This is when the weather is warm and dry but not too hot. The autumn months are also a good time to go as the region's fruit and vegetable harvest season has just finished, meaning prices are lower than in summer.

There are some great festivals during this period, including the grape harvest festival in Monchique, the olive harvest festival in Silves and the wine festival in Lagos. You'll also find plenty of events on offer throughout the year, such as traditional bullfighting events known as touradas bravas or rodeos (rodeos).

Few Tips

It's hard to know when to go to the Algarve because it's such a popular destination. If you want to avoid crowds and have the best time possible, we recommend visiting from May through September. The weather tends to be warm but not too hot, and there are fewer crowds than during other months of the year.

  • The best time to visit the Algarve is from mid-May through mid-October. You'll find plenty of sunshine, but not too much heat during this time. It's also a great time to enjoy the beaches, which are usually less crowded than they are during the summer months.

What to wear in Algarve

The Algarve region of Portugal is known for its warm climate and beautiful beaches, so you'll want to pack your swimsuit and flip-flops for your trip. But it's not all about the beach—there are plenty of other things to do in the Algarve, so you'll want to make sure your wardrobe is up to the challenge.

In terms of clothing, it's best to stick with neutral colours and natural fabrics. Darker colours will fade in the sun, and synthetic fabrics will be uncomfortable when it gets hot out (and we mean really hot). Your wardrobe should include the following:

-a pair of jeans or khakis

-a light sweater or cardigan

-a lightweight blazer or jacket

-a pair of shorts or capris

-tank tops and t-shirts (you can get these at any souvenir shop in town)

-shoes that can handle the heat—flip flops are fine, but sandals are better (you can also get these at any souvenir shop in town).

What to Wear in Algarve

The best way to dress for Algarve weather is to wear lightweight clothing that covers your arms and legs when you're outside. The average humidity level is about 60%, meaning you'll feel more comfortable wearing moisture-wicking fabrics that keep you dry and cool. Cotton T-shirts and shorts are fine if made from quick-drying materials like spandex or nylon; avoid cotton if it takes too long to dry out after getting wet in the ocean or pool. If you're going to be hiking or biking through nature preserves or vineyards, consider bringing some light rain gear—it can rain unexpectedly even when it seems like it shouldn't!

Things to know

The Algarve region of Portugal is a beautiful place to visit, and the weather is usually sunny and warm. However, you might want to pack a few extra layers if you're heading there in the winter months—it can get chilly at night! The Algarve is a small region in southern Portugal that borders Spain, and it's known for its gorgeous beaches, incredible weather (it never gets too hot), and vibrant nightlife. It's also known for being pretty casual: people usually walk around in flip-flops or sandals, and jeans are fine as long as they're not too tight or faded. But if you want to really make an impression on the locals, try dressing up a little bit more than usual—and don't forget your sunblock!

When packing for your trip, we recommend bringing a raincoat or light jacket for cooler days and some sun protection (sunscreen and sunglasses). If you're planning on going swimming in the ocean or pool, we recommend bringing a bathing suit. And lastly, if you're planning on exploring the city of Faro by foot or bike, we recommend bringing comfortable shoes!

Few Tips

Don't forget to pack a raincoat!

The weather in Algarve is hot and sunny most of the year, but it can sometimes rain. If you're planning a trip to the Algarve, be prepared with a few tips for how to dress for the weather.

  1. First off, pack your trusty raincoat—it's going to get wet pretty quickly as soon as you step outside into that hot and humid air. Even if it doesn't rain while you're there, it's always good to have an extra layer in case the unexpected happens! You don't want to be caught unprepared if a storm rolls through unexpectedly!
  2. You'll also want to bring some sunscreen with at least SPF 30 on hand in case you want to explore outside your hotel or resort. And while we're on the subject of sun protection: remember that Algarve is known for its beautiful beaches and clear blue waters, so this is definitely not the place where you want to forget your sunglasses!
  3. In the summer months, you'll want to pack light clothes and plenty of sunscreens. The average temperature during summer is around 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit).
